Chicago Safe Place

I enjoyed opening my mail yesterday to see an invitation design by Paul Halupka for Chicago Safe Place! I really admire Paul’s work and heart for non-profit organizations in his town. This the invitation announces the official launch of Chicago Safe Place (next week!). Paul brought me in for an initial brainstorming session and I love where his design ended up. Great work and I can’t wait to see how this Chicago brand shapes up over the next several months. happy launch week!

Speaking of launch weeks, Moss Rock Festival’s new branding kicks off with a Launch Party next Tuesday at the Preserve. Pictures and blog post to come…

David White, book signings

David White’s new release, A Stroke of Genius, has been on the shelves for just a few months and already he’s had appearances and signings at several local bookstores. He’s also been interviewed on ABC 33/40 and NBC.

Congrats to Dawn and Tobie on combining their unique and fabulous talents to bring us H&H Interior Design. Cheers to good design and new businesses!

Inspired by European tradition and American modernism, creating classic and timeless interiors has always come natural for both of these Birmingham, Alabama designers. They have worked on projects in Savannah, Memphis, New Orleans and all over Birmingham and its surrounding areas.

I launched my new portfolio site (you’re looking at it!). Hope you enjoy.

The last couple weeks at From Scratch Design have been exciting and busy. I’ve been re-branding and handling the web site for Moss Rock Festival. The creative is looking so GOOD! The talented Paul Halupka and Anna Reynolds have been behind the scenes with me. Can’t wait to show it off!

I’ve also been working on some new recruitment pieces for the UAB School of Business, an annual report, and well, you’ll just have to wait and see….

Iron Tribe Fitness

I’m excited to share with you the launch of Homewood’s newest CrossFit gym, Iron Tribe Fitness. Anna Reynolds (of White Space Studio) managed the entire branding project from the ground up. Recycled Paper Wedding invitation

MyScoop Mississippi mentioned my wedding invitation design for Cori Anderson Sullivan! Like any good freelancer, I haven’t added it to my portfolio yet (doh!) so here’s a picture of it hanging in my office. Cori put top priority on having an eco-friendly wedding (read all about it in the MyScoop article, here.) so I chose one of my favorite recycled papers, French speckletone. French’s paper mill has been powered by water for over 100 years and they pioneered recycled papers in 1953. The paper is 100% recycled, FSC certified, and processed chlorine free. Happy Marriage Cori and Mark!

LemakHealth – Buddypress launch

Several months ago I was asked to be a part of Lemak Sports Medicine’s social networking project. Ryan Roenigk (our AMAZING programmer), Zackery Moore (project manager) and I (web designer – with design collaboration from the talented Paul Halupka) teamed together to launch a social network for athletes, patients of Lemak Sports Medicine, and anyone interested in sharing with others their experiences with the pursuit of a healthy life. Whether you’re recovering from ACL surgery or eating the right foods aid your body in training for a triathlon, or just want to discuss yoga exercises to improve your flexibility, LemakHealth has a place for you to jump in and be a part of the community.

Ryan, Zackary and I decided to use Buddypress (BuddyPress adds a social networking layer to a new or existing installation of WordPress Multi-user) which we were stoked about. Buddypress was just released in April 2009 so customizing it is relatively unchartered territory. Ryan rose to the challenge!

Matt Mullenweg, founding developer of WordPress, says that Buddypress is a major milestone for WordPress. (understatement!) I have to agree and add that it is a major milestone for anyone seeking a web presence today. WordPress is changing the web as we know it; its changing the way we create, use and update web sites. Buddypress is harnessing the new push for social networking – sharing, blogging, instant access to hundreds of other people doing exactly what you’re doing. You’re in, you have friends, you’re learning and spreading the word.

Columbia Reunion materials…. finished!

I’m thrilled to announce that the Columbia University Reunion marketing materials that I’ve been working on for a little over 2 months, finally went to press yesterday! Early Saturday morning (….7:30am) the proofs arrived on my doorstep. They look fantastic which makes us a few short steps from this project being 100% completed and in the homes of over 15,000 Columbia graduates. Here’s your sneak peak at the proofs:

Elizabeth and I have been working crazy hours to get this project finished and I am celebrating by taking a day off next week for a little pool time…
